A cable hanging loose
A cable off its drum or lying on the floor — the door is no longer supported on that side.
A cable hanging loose, a door raised on one side, or rollers popped out of the track — these are urgent and unsafe to fix yourself. We replace cables, drums and bottom brackets and re-align tracks across Toronto and the GTA, usually the same day, with a written quote first.
Your lift cables run from the bottom corners of the door up to drums on the spring bar. Together with the springs, they carry the weight of the door every time it moves.
Cables fray and rust over time, especially in garages exposed to road salt and damp. They also come off the drums when a spring breaks, when the door hits an obstacle, or when the opener keeps pulling against a door that is binding.
Once one cable goes, the door lifts unevenly, twists in the opening and can jump the track. That is why we inspect the drums, bottom brackets, rollers and track — not just the cable.

A cable off its drum or lying on the floor — the door is no longer supported on that side.
The door sits crooked in the opening, higher on one side than the other.
One or more rollers have popped out and the door is jammed or leaning.
Broken strands near the bottom brackets are a warning that the cable will snap soon.
A bent track or worn rollers make the door rub and catch as it moves.
Uneven cable tension can make the door close hard or fall the last few feet.
We make the door safe first, so nothing can drop or shift while we work.
Cables, drums, bottom brackets, springs, rollers and tracks are all checked.
You get a written quote before any parts are replaced.
We replace cables in pairs, set the drums correctly and straighten or re-align the tracks.
The door is balanced, run through full cycles and the opener’s safety reversal is tested.
The bottom brackets and cables are connected to springs under high tension. Loosening the wrong bolt can release that tension suddenly.
A door that has come off its track can shift or fall if it is pushed or lifted. Keep the opener unplugged and stay clear.
Call us and we will secure the door, find out why the cable failed, and get it running properly again.

Our double door started making a loud grinding noise and then stopped halfway up, right as I was leaving for work. Called DPS around 8:30 and someone was at the house in Jefferson before noon. Turned out to be a broken torsion spring and a…
We replaced our old 20-year-old wood door with a new Richards-Wilcox insulated steel door and honestly the whole experience was refreshing. The DPS team walked me through the panel styles, colours, and window options without any pressure…
